Privacy Policy and Terms of Service

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 10 October 2026

This policy explains what personal information I collect through farahuddin.com, why I collect it, and what your rights are. I only collect what I need to run this website and send my newsletter, and I never sell your information.

Who I am

This website is run by Farah Uddin, an author based in Birmingham, United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law, I am the data controller of the personal information described in this policy.

If you have any questions about this policy or your information, you can contact me at silver.chapter@farahuddin.com.

What information I collect

  • Newsletter and membership details. When you subscribe, I collect your email address and, if you choose to give it, your name.
  • Email engagement. When I send a newsletter, I can see whether it was delivered, whether it was opened, and which links were clicked. This helps me understand what readers enjoy and keep my mailing list healthy.
  • Messages you send me. If you email me or use a contact form, I receive your name, your email address and whatever you include in your message.
  • Technical information. Like most websites, the servers that host this site automatically record basic technical details such as your IP address, browser type, and the date and time of your visit. This is used for security and to keep the site running.

I do not collect payment details, and I do not knowingly collect any sensitive personal information.

How I use your information

I use your information to:

  • send you my newsletter, including book news, new releases, blog posts and occasional offers
  • let you sign in to the site as a subscriber
  • reply to messages and enquiries
  • keep the website secure and working properly
  • comply with my legal obligations

UK data protection law requires me to have a lawful reason for using your information. I rely on:

  • Consent, when you sign up to my newsletter. You can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing.
  • Legitimate interests, when I reply to your enquiries, keep the site secure, and review how my newsletters perform. I make sure these interests do not override your rights.
  • Legal obligation, where the law requires me to keep or disclose information.

The newsletter and how to unsubscribe

I will only send you my newsletter if you have signed up for it. Every email includes an unsubscribe link, and you can use it at any time. You can also email me and ask to be removed. Once you unsubscribe, I will stop emailing you straight away.

Who I share your information with

I do not sell, rent or trade your information. I share it only with the service providers that help me run this site, and only so they can provide their service to me:

  • Ghost, the publishing platform this website is built on, which stores subscriber details.
  • Mailgun (operated by Sinch), the email delivery service that sends my newsletters. Mailgun receives your email address and records delivery, open and click information.
  • My website hosting provider, which stores the site and its data.

I may also share information if the law requires me to, for example in response to a court order.

Transfers outside the UK

Some of my service providers, including Mailgun, may store or process information outside the United Kingdom, including in the United States and the European Union. Where this happens, the transfer is protected by safeguards recognised under UK law, such as UK adequacy regulations or approved standard contractual clauses.

Cookies

This website uses only the cookies needed to make it work. If you sign in as a subscriber, a cookie keeps you signed in. I do not use advertising cookies or sell data to advertisers.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, although signing in may not work if you do.

How long I keep your information

  • Subscriber details are kept for as long as you remain subscribed. If you unsubscribe or ask me to delete your details, I remove them within 30 days. I may keep a record of your email address on a suppression list so that I do not email you again by mistake.
  • Messages and enquiries are kept for up to 12 months after our conversation ends, unless I need them for longer for a specific reason.
  • Technical logs are kept for a short period for security purposes.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the information I hold about you
  • ask me to correct information that is wrong or incomplete
  • ask me to delete your information
  • ask me to restrict or stop using your information
  • object to my use of your information, including for direct marketing
  • ask for your information in a portable format
  • withdraw your consent at any time

To use any of these rights, email me at silver.chapter@farahuddin.com. I will reply within one month, and there is no charge.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, please contact me first so I can try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.

Children

My newsletter is intended for adults. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has given me their details, please contact me and I will delete them.

Security

I take reasonable steps to protect your information, including using reputable service providers and limiting access to subscriber data. No website or email service can be guaranteed completely secure, but I will tell you and the ICO where the law requires it if a breach affects your information.

This site links to other websites, such as book retailers and social media. I am not responsible for how those sites handle your information, so please read their own privacy policies.

Changes to this policy

I may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it was last changed. If I make a significant change, I will let subscribers know by email.

These terms apply to your use of farahuddin.com and to my newsletter. By using this website or subscribing, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

About this website

This website is run by Farah Uddin, an author based in Birmingham, United Kingdom. In these terms, "I", "me" and "my" refer to Farah Uddin, and "the site" means farahuddin.com.

You can contact me at silver.chapter@farahuddin.com.

Using the site

You are welcome to browse the site, read my posts and subscribe to my newsletter for your own personal, non-commercial use. In return, you agree not to:

  • use the site for anything unlawful, harmful or fraudulent
  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its servers or any subscriber accounts
  • introduce viruses or other malicious code, or interfere with how the site works
  • collect content or data from the site by automated means, such as scraping, without my written permission
  • sign up to the newsletter using someone else's email address

I may suspend or remove access for anyone who breaks these terms.

Newsletter and subscriber accounts

Subscribing to my newsletter is free. When you subscribe, you agree to receive emails from me about my books, writing and related news. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email.

Please give an email address that belongs to you and keep access to your inbox secure, since sign-in links are sent there. I may change how often I send the newsletter, or stop sending it, at any time.

How I handle your personal information is explained in my Privacy Policy.

Intellectual property

Everything on this site, including my writing, book extracts, blog posts, cover designs, images and logos, belongs to me or is used with permission, and is protected by copyright.

You may share links to the site and quote short passages for reviews, book clubs or discussion, as long as you credit me. You may not copy, republish, sell or adapt any other content from the site or my newsletters without my written permission.

Books and third-party retailers

My books are sold through third-party retailers such as Amazon. When you follow a link to a retailer, your purchase is with that retailer and is covered by their terms, prices and returns policy, not these terms.

The site contains links to other websites that I do not control. I include them for convenience and am not responsible for their content or for anything that happens when you use them.

Content and accuracy

My novels and stories are works of fiction. Blog posts, including those about writing and publishing, reflect my own experience and opinions. They are shared for general interest and are not professional, legal or financial advice.

I try to keep the site accurate and up to date, but I do not guarantee that everything on it is complete, current or free from errors. Release dates and other book details may change.

Availability

I aim to keep the site available, but I cannot promise it will always be online or free from faults. I may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the site without notice.

Limitation of liability

The site and newsletter are provided free of charge and "as is". To the fullest extent allowed by law, I am not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of the site, the newsletter, or any website linked from them.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer.

Changes to these terms

I may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they were last changed. If you keep using the site after a change, you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any dispute will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales, unless you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, in which case you may bring a claim in your local courts.
